The Marriage Tree
Mixed Media on paper, wood and glass, various sizes

The Marriage Tree on Wassaw Island, Georgia, was so named by the family who vacationed there in the mid-twentieth century. It consists of a Bay and a Palm fused at the root. It's difficult to discern the individual attributes of each trunk—so entangled are they—but above, the Bay is fully a Bay, the Palm fully a Palm. The Bay is dense and wide while the spare Palm thrusts straight up and through.
